Harold told me that Dorothea sat in her chair this morning for 90 minutes, was alert and talkative. When Don and I visited around Noon today mom was receiving a nebulizer treatment. She was still very tired from being up in the chair this morning. We were not sure if she was awake or not, but we talked to her for quite a while. When we were leaving and telling her goodbye she acknowledged us and told us that she loved us.
I went back to see mom around 6pm and she was still very tired. I think she was awake and listening to me, and I asked her to squeeze my hand to let me know if she was hearing me, and she did squeeze my hand. As I was telling her goodbye, she acknoweldged me and told me she loved me. Her eyes were closed all of the time, except when she coughs. The coughing is obviously very painful and takes a lot of energy out of her.

I went to see Mom around 7:30 tonight. My Dad and brother John were there. Mom seemed to be sleeping her eyes always almost shut. I stayed and held her hand watching her sleep for a while. They have her propped up on one side a little which lookes very uncomfortable but I assume it's to promote chest drainage. The nurses came and reposititioned mom after another nebulizer treatment to help her cough be productive. Dad and John returned to say goodbye for tonight but not before Dad talked to the new nursing staff that just came on duty. He made sure they understood the correct dosing instructions for her insulin. There was mention of the original diabetic doctor and that her chart was marked with a refusal of treatment by him/her and that the head of the diabetes dept. was now overseeing her treatment. I am to see that it is being corrected. We love you Mama!
